When: | April 12, 2022, 19:00 |
Where: | The Lion's Den, 135 John St. W., Exeter |
What: | A business meeting followed by our guest speaker, Bart Postma He recently retired from the military after 24 years of service. As a teenager, he attained his private pilot’s license at Goderich before moving on to Confederation College in Thunder Bay where he completed both the Aircraft Maintenance and Aviation Flight Management programs. Upon graduation, Bart was accepted into the Royal Canadian Air Force and began his career flying the Sea King helicopter on the West coast, flying operationally from the back of Navy ships throughout the South Pacific, Gulf of Oman and Persian Gulf. After his next tour as a Sea King helicopter instructor on the East coast, Bart switched back to fixed-wing flying and became an A2 instructor on the Harvard II in Moose Jaw, SK. He attained his life-long dream of becoming a Snowbird pilot in 2013, serving as Snowbird 3 for the 2014-15 airshow seasons. Bart is very happy to be back in Goderich and is elated to have the opportunity to conduct sightseeing flights with Papple Aviation from the very airport where he first learned to fly. A more detailed bio is posted at: https://pappleaviation.ca/pilots/ |
Addition Notes: | At this meeting we will require volunteer commitments to help support our upcoming events. Also, we are approaching our year end and it is time to renew your membership to COPA 177. Only $30 required to be part our enthusiatic flying community. |
Follow-up / Results: | A great turn-out! Thirty two participants heard Bart describe what it is like to be a Snowbird. (Not the kind who go to Florida). The volunteer list for the Fly-in Breakfast is in good shape, but volunteers are still required for the Discover Aviation Event (formerly COPA for Kids) on June 12th. Contact Dave Podbury. Mike Ash is looking for one volunteer to help park arriving IPAT aircraft on Friday, June 3rd. |
